The 16mm Steenbeck editing table (or flatbed, or Steinbeck as many people insist on calling it, are known in France as ‘table de montage’ which is much nicer) is a device that allows you to edit positive rushes, negatives (carefully), found footage or home movies. It is at the heart of the lab and every home should have one. With this machine you can slowly analyse images, bi-pack to see what printed double exposures might look like, splice and re-order time by hand, or check tests before embarking on a round of printing.
