Optical printing is the re-photography of one film gauge to another. For example, blowing up Super 8mm to 16mm, or transferring 16mm to 16mm. With the JK we can change the speed of images, for example Super 8mm film that was shot at silent speed (18FPS) can be transferred to project at 16mm film speed (24FPS). Fragile images (cameraless film, handmade film, composted or degraded film etc) can be saved by transferring them onto new stock. The JK can be used to create superimpositions, dissolves, traveling mattes and other optical effects, images can be greatly enlarged beyond their original ratio to accentuate grain, colour, abstraction etc.
